The Pale Widow — Level 40 Boss Guide

The Pale Widow ends the forest at level 40, and she is the game's bullet-hell exam. Her kit is small — venom fans, web lobs, spider summons — but the two halves are engineered to kill you in combination: the webs take away your speed, and the fans punish anything that can't move. Keep those two ideas separate and the fight is readable; let them overlap and it's over.

Venom fans — every fan has a hole in it

Her main attack: she rears up, abdomen high and pulsing, then flicks her forelegs and sprays a fan of four to seven green venom globs aimed at your formation — two volleys per attack, a heartbeat apart, each preceded by a visible abdomen-recoil and head-dip. Here is the fact that changes how you play her: every fan is generated with one glob deliberately missing. There is always a true gap inside the spread, in addition to the open road outside its edges. The spread was widened in a balance pass precisely so those lanes are real, usable space.

So you have two valid dodges: slip through the gap in the fan, or slide past the outer edge of the spread. What doesn't work is backing straight up — the globs are converging on your position, and retreating just gives the fan more time to close. And because the volleys come in pairs, don't relax after the first; the second is aimed fresh at wherever you went.

Web lob — a pincer, not a puddle

Before the lob, two pale circles appear on the road — one about a unit and a half to your left, one the same to your right. That placement is not random: it's a pincer bracketing the exact spot you're standing, and the silk zones are wide enough that they overlap the middle. Standing your ground means standing in silk. The webs persist for five seconds and cut your movement speed in half while you're inside them.

Webs deal no damage — which is exactly why new players ignore them, and exactly why they kill. Slowed-in-silk while a two-volley fan sweeps in is the signature Widow death. The moment the twin circles paint, commit to one long slide, clear of both circles, and fight from clean ground. Treat silk as lava for the full five seconds; the shimmer tells you where it still lives.

The brood — leg-drum summons

She drums her legs and the brood answers: four to six spiders drop in. As with the Rootfather, they're individually weak but arrive at the worst moments, and every one that skitters past your line costs diamonds from your run bank at this depth. Her rotation is fan, web, fan, summon — so the spiders always land right after a web lob, when your mobility may already be compromised. One more reason to exit silk immediately.

Common mistakes

Past the Widow, the forest gives way to scorched sand — ten desert levels, scarab floods, and the three-phase finale: Pharaoh Akhotep at level 50.
